We are proud to welcome back Rafael Lovato Sr. to our gym. Professor Rafael Lovato, Sr. will be visiting our facility for the second time this year. A former boxer, Rafael began studying martial arts in 1972, and has trained extensively with many of the world's most respected and highly acclaimed martial artists. He is a certified instructor in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Muay Thai, and Escrima under re-known martial artist Richard Bustillo. Rafael is also a certified coach/trainer with the United States Amateur Boxing Federation, a certified ASP Baton Instructor, Handler 12 Instructor, Law Enforcement Tactical Defense Instructor, and Custody and Control Instructor. In addition, Rafael received his Black Belt under internationally acclaimed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Carlos Machado in May of 2003. In November 1996, Rafael distinguished himself by becoming the first martial arts instructor in Oklahoma to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rafael Sr., was also the first to ever hold a BJJ tournament in Oklahoma, as well as host a seminar by a Gracie. A multi-talented man, Rafael is also a classically trained professional musician and served as a choirmaster and organist for the Roman Catholic and Episcopal Dioceses of Cincinnati, Ohio for over ten years. He speaks three languages and is also educated as a health care professional. He has trained Olympic athletes, professional boxers, and MMA fighters. With over 30 years of experience in the martial arts, Rafael has a wealth of knowledge, which he generously shares with his students. Please join us in welcoming him to our facility!
